The Lore & Lure of Small Business
This take on small business seems to be about right, and I would go further.
It’s worth noting that there’s not just a split in degree between the top of the list and the bottom, but a degree in kind. The Greek economy is unusual not just for its uncompetitive nature, but for the unusually large informal sector for a developed country. I would hazard a guess that expanding the scope of this analysis further (to encompass developing nations) would see even greater concentrations of labor in small business in rough proportion to the size of the informal sector. Not something we should desire.
